Winter Weather Safety Tips: How to Help Moyer Help You

We take safety seriously at Moyer. During snowstorms, icy conditions, and extreme cold, our top priority is the safety of our customers and our technicians, from the moment you call us to the time we arrive at your home.
To protect everyone involved, Moyer technicians will not drive or work in conditions that create unsafe risks. That being said, preparing your property ahead and after the effects of winter weather helps ensure we can safely provide service when you need it most.

General Winter Safety Reminders for Home Services

Before scheduling service during winter weather, please take a few moments to prepare your property:

  • Clear snow and ice from driveways, walkways, and entry points
  • Apply salt or ice melt to walking paths and access areas
  • Provide a safe, stable parking area 15-20 feet long for service vehicles

Important to know:

  • Service may be delayed or canceled if our vehicle cannot be safely parked
  • Street parking may not be possible in some areas due to snow or local restrictions
  • Service cannot be completed if technicians cannot safely access your home because of ice, snow, or hazardous conditions

If your property is not properly prepared for winter conditions, Moyer disclaims any liability for damage related to unsafe conditions.

Oil & Propane Winter Safety Tips

Cold weather can create serious safety and delivery challenges for oil and propane systems. To avoid disruptions, customers should:

Keep Heating Equipment Accessible

  • Clear snow from furnace and water heater exhausts and fresh air intake vents
  • Ensure gas regulators are visible and free of ice or snow
  • Clear snow from buried propane tanks and tank domes

Maintain Safe Fuel Delivery Access

  • Keep driveways and access paths at least 10 feet wide for delivery trucks
  • Clear and treat paths to fuel tanks and fill pipes
  • Know the location of your fill pipe to prevent delivery delays

Improve Visibility & Safety

  • Keep house numbers clearly visible during storms
  • Remove debris from vent pipes to ensure proper ventilation

Plan Ahead for Winter Fuel Needs

Emergency fuel requests often increase right before major storms. Enrolling in automatic fuel delivery helps ensure you never run out of oil or propane and provides peace of mind throughout the winter heating season.

HVAC Winter Service Safety Tips

If you need HVAC service during winter weather, please prepare the following areas:

  • Shovel a 3-foot clearance around outdoor HVAC units, heat pumps, and condensers
  • Clear a safe walkway from the driveway or street to the unit and home entrance
  • Ensure gates are shoveled out and not frozen shut
  • Clear snow and ice from bilco doors and basement steps
  • Pre-treat icy steps with salt or sand

A Shared Commitment to Winter Safety

We want to help keep your home comfortable and safe all winter long—but we can only do so when conditions allow our technicians to work safely. Taking a few proactive steps before and after winter storms helps prevent delays, protects your home, and ensures faster service when you need it.
