“Our technician is very helpful and knowledgeable. Another service came to our door last week, and we were happy to tell them we have been with Moyer Pest Control for 15 years and we would not think of switching.”
Contamination
When ants enter your home, they bring bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms that cause disease which can be transferred to your food and any surfaces that they touch.
Damage
Carpenter ants gnaw through the wood of your home, tunneling in and using the scraps and sawdust to create their nests.
Injury
Ant bites can be painful. The good news is that only Carpenter ants will bite humans. It’s their response to protect themselves and their nests. If you’re allergic to bee stings it’s also possible that you’re going to have an allergic reaction to an ant bite.
Don’t Go it Alone
It can be difficult to get rid of ants on your own. They easily enter your home through cracks and crevices, making it hard to know if you’ve taken care of the problem.
You may be tempted to try an ant repellent spray or a home remedy you’ve seen on social media. These are quick fixes but they don’t solve the problem completely. Most ant sprays kill only the ants that come into contact with the pesticide.
Some ant sprays have the opposite effect on ants, causing them to return in larger numbers. These methods can also cause the ants to split up, creating new colonies in your home.
Ant Extermination The Moyer Way
Identify
The first step is to identify the species of ants attempting to set up house in your home or commercial property. Ants most common to our region of Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey and Delaware are:
Pavement Ants
Pavement ants are a type of black ant but they can appear as black, brown, red, dark brown, or a combination of these colors. These are the ants that build small anthills in between cracks in concrete and blacktop. They don’t cause property damage but they can contaminate your food and spread disease through surface contact.
Odorous Ants
Odorous ants are another type of black ant. They earned the “odorous” name because when crushed, they release a rotten coconut odor. Also known as sugar ants or house ants, these are the ants you’ll typically see in your home seeking food and shelter.
Carpenter Ants
Carpenter ants live up to their name but the only thing they’re building for you is trouble. These ants thrive best in wood that is wet or moldy.
Evaluate
We’ll determine where the ants are gaining access to your property and where they’re taking up residence. Then, we’ll develop a plan of attack based on the type of ant infestation, taking into consideration:
- Safety: of you and any occupants of the home or commercial property (children, pets, etc.)
- How many live ants we observe in your home.
- Potential pathways the ants are taking into and throughout your home.
- Location of nests. These can be found from small piles of dirt or sawdust while others can be in walls or dark spaces in your home.
Treat
Our professional exterminators will develop a custom treatment plan to control the existing ants and prevent future infestations. We will apply treatment along the trails and at the nest sites.
